Luciano parents: Meet Sophie McClymont, Arthur McClymont

Arthur and Sophie McClymont are Luciano’s parents.

Luciano’s father Arthur died when he was just 11 years old. As Luciano recalls, “through those early years, I fell in love with the guitar and started to learn to play, which I realized was showing love and respect to my father.” He left behind a guitar that he had built. Sophie, Luciano’s beloved mother, is a talented singer who struggled to raise him and his eight siblings.

He began collaborating with Philip “Fatis” Burrell and released the singles “Chant Out” and “Poor and Simple.” At the end of 1993, he released the album Moving Up. After recording singles for Musclehead and Louie Culture in 1994, he went back to work with Burrell on a string of hit singles and the album One Way Ticket, which put Luciano at the forefront of dancehall music’s “Rasta Renaissance.”
