Alarming reports have surfaced regarding the rising usage of a dangerous substance known as the “zombie drug” in Los Angeles.

City officials are closely monitoring the situation as incidents related to this flesh-rotting drug continue to escalate.

The drug, scientifically called desomorphine but commonly referred to as “krokodil,” gained notoriety due to its devastating effects on users. It causes severe tissue damage, resulting in visible skin rotting and gangrene-like symptoms.

This synthetic opioid, often homemade using toxic ingredients, has been associated with the breakdown of bodily tissues and even necrosis.

Law enforcement agencies are collaborating with health authorities to combat the spread of this dangerous drug.

Educational campaigns have been launched to raise awareness about the risks and consequences of its use.

“It’s really gruesomely disfiguring people,” Drug Enforcement Administration special agent Bill Bodner told KTLA. “In the greater Los Angeles area, we are seeing xylazine as an additive within fake fentanyl pills,” DEA LA Field Division spokesperson Nicole Nishida told the newspaper.

“While the numbers are relatively low in our community compared to elsewhere in the United States, the presence of xylazine is now becoming more frequent and the trend is concerning.”

Officials urge residents to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activities, and prioritize their safety.
