Former President of the Ghana Football Association and New Patriotic Party parliamentary primary aspirant, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has been hospitalized due to stomach pains.
Nyantakyi, who is contesting in the Ejisu Constituency, reportedly fell ill on Friday night and was rushed to the Legacy Hospital at Asokore Mampong for treatment.
According to sources from his campaign team, Nyantakyi’s busy schedule, which led to him not eating all day, may have triggered the illness. He had important meetings scheduled ahead of Saturday’s primary elections with party delegates.
In a show of support, Danquah Smith Buttey, National First Vice Chairman of the NPP, and Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, visited Nyantakyi at the hospital.
Today, a total of 1081 delegates will determine the fate of nine aspirants vying for the NPP candidacy in the Ejisu Constituency by-election following the death of the former MP, John Ampontuah Kumah.
Campaign activities have intensified in the run-up to the primary elections, with aspirants actively engaging delegates for their support. The NPP has urged strict adherence to election guidelines and cautioned against the camping of delegates by aspirants.
Nana Kofi Owusu, the Ashanti Regional Research and Elections Officer of the NPP, has assured that everything is in place for a smooth and successful election day.
