Legendary Ghanaian footballer Mohammed Polo has praised the current Ghana Football administration, under the leadership of Kurt Okraku, as one of the best he has witnessed in the country’s history.

The former 1978 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner commended the governing body for its efforts in developing the local game, particularly in the women’s football sector.

In an interview with Citi Sports, Polo expressed his belief that Kurt Okraku has made significant strides in revitalizing Ghanaian football, especially considering the challenges faced during the previous administration led by Kwesi Nyantakyi. “He has done tremendously well because there were huge expectations which brought a lot of tension on the GFA,” Polo remarked. “This is one of the best GFA administrations I have ever seen.”

Polo, who also had a successful coaching career with Hearts of Oak, acknowledged the difficulties faced by Nyantakyi’s administration and the limitations of the generation of players during that time. “Nyantakyi had a crop of players who were dedicated but couldn’t win the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). They were quality but they couldn’t win,” Polo explained. However, he credited Okraku for making significant progress in improving the state of Ghanaian football.

The former football star noted that despite initial challenges, Okraku’s commitment to restructuring and developing the game has started to yield positive results. “When he came, he was trying to put things in place but the result wasn’t coming. Fortunately, he’s got another term and we are seeing the result,” Polo stated. As a respected figure within the Ghanaian football community, Polo’s endorsement of Kurt Okraku’s administration carries weight and reflects the positive changes being made within the sport in Ghana.
