Renowned African filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has exciting news for fans as he embarks on the filming of season 2 of the Netflix series, Aníkúlápó. Afolayan, known for his exceptional work in the film industry, has shared photos of his location scouting in Ghana, where parts of the upcoming season will be filmed.
The Nigerian filmmaker had previously announced his plans to shoot season two of the award-winning movie in Ghana, and this recent development shows progress towards making that a reality. Location scouting, also known as location recce, is a crucial step in the pre-production phase of filmmaking. It involves identifying and evaluating potential filming sites to ensure they align with the creative vision and logistical needs of the production.
Afolayan made the revelation about shooting in Ghana at the Nigeria International Film and TV Summit (NIFS) held in Cannes, France in June. The summit, attended by various industry experts and media personalities, included the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana’s National Film Authority, Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante.
Ghana has been actively promoting its beautiful landscapes and top-notch facilities to attract filmmakers from around the world. The “Shoot in Ghana” initiative led by the National Film Authority aims to showcase the country’s heritage and culture while providing employment opportunities for locals.
Asante expressed her excitement about this collaboration, stating, “Ghana is calling on the world to come and shoot in Ghana and capture the very beautiful sceneries and facilities Ghana has in their movies.” The National Film Authority is thrilled to partner with Kunle Afolayan, a prominent figure in African cinema, to film scenes of Aníkúlápó in Ghana.
Aníkúlápó is a highly anticipated four-part series that serves as a sequel to the 2022 Netflix original film Aníkúlápó. The story follows Saro, a stranger and traditional textile weaver, who finds himself in an unlikely romantic affair with Queen Arolake in Oyo. The first season was entirely filmed at the Kunle Afolayan Production (KAP) Film Village in Igbojaye, Oyo State, with a cast and crew of 600.
Fans can look forward to experiencing the captivating storytelling and breathtaking visuals that Aníkúlápó season 2 will bring, as Afolayan continues to push boundaries and showcase African talent on a global platform.
