Private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu, has raised allegations against Attorney-General Godfred Dame regarding the ongoing case involving former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah. Kpebu, speaking on the Ghana Tonight show on TV3, accused the Attorney-General of creating a plan to set Cecilia Dapaah free.
According to Kpebu, there have been past instances where the boss of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) failed to follow professional procedures in cases involving individuals close to the current government. He mentioned cases such as Abu Jinapor and Assenso Boakye, Serwaah Broni, the Takoradi Girls, and the Amoako Attah Vrs Stephen Adei, where EOCO allegedly did not conduct proper investigations to allow these individuals to go free.
Kpebu pointed out a contradiction in the actions of the Attorney-General, highlighting that despite the A-G’s statement that EOCO found nothing in its investigations into Cecilia Dapaah, there is evidence in the file that suggests otherwise. He challenged the A-G and EOCO Boss to allow independent analysts to review the case file.
The Office of the Attorney General recently advised EOCO against initiating an investigation into money laundering in the Cecilia Dapaah case. The A-G’s office stated that the OSP did not submit the report of its collaborative investigation to EOCO and also did not respond to requests for its findings.
Further analysis by the Attorney General’s office revealed no evidence of corruption or corruption-related offenses in Cecilia Dapaah’s case. The A-G emphasized the need to prove that financial gains were obtained from criminal proceeds in money laundering investigations.
The A-G also advised against EOCO investigating the source of Cecilia Dapaah’s funds and indicated that the CID was already tasked with that aspect of the case. The OSP docket on the matter was returned to EOCO following these developments.
