Kofi Adams punches holes in gov’t job creation figures

The Member of Parliament for the Buem constituency in the Oti Region, Kofi Iddie Adams, has voiced out his concerns regarding job losses in the public sector under the current NPP government led by President Akufo-Addo.

According to him, this administration has overseen the highest number of job losses in the public sector compared to any other government.

Speaking about the government’s Performance Tracker, Adams highlighted the inconsistencies in the job creation numbers presented in the 2024 budget and what was captured on the tracker. He noted that while the government claimed to have created 1.4 million public sector jobs in the budget presented in November 2023, the tracker’s data only went up to June 2023.

Adams also pointed out discrepancies in the job creation figures mentioned by Dr. Bawumia during a lecture at UPSA in February. He mentioned that the public sector jobs reported in the budget as 1.4 million had dropped to 1.2 million, while the private sector numbers increased.

The MP raised questions about the fluctuating job figures on the Performance Tracker, indicating that the government’s mismanagement of the public sector and rising unemployment rates are contributing factors. He stated that the NPP administration has overseen more job losses than any other government, confirming the deteriorating job creation opportunities under their watch.

Adams made these remarks during an appearance on The Key Points on Saturday, April 13, emphasizing the need for better management of job creation opportunities in the public sector to address the escalating unemployment rate in the country.
