Kaye was born in Ernabella somewhere about 1955.
She spent her early years at the mission before her family moved to the Fregon settlement. At Fregon, Kaye performed work in the craft area.
She moved to Kanpi, the country of her father Jimmy Baker, in the 1980s, and helped create a small art and craft room there. She worked, lived, and played close to her father until his death in 2010 and cared for him during his latter years of illness.
She talks about their thoughts on the importance of maintaining the painting tradition as a means of preserving national identity and how to translate the histories of their respective nations into works of art.
Despite the similarity of their plots, Kaye has created work that is distinct from Jimmy’s and unique to the greater Indian art market. She is a superb weaver of the desert as well as a sculptor.
