The Ankasa Forest Reserve road in the Jomoro Constituency of the Western Region is undergoing a transformation thanks to the efforts of Member of Parliament, Dorcas Affo-Toffey.
This eight-kilometer road, which has not seen any coal tar since its construction several decades ago, serves nearby communities including Amokwawsuazo, Fire, “Odo y3 f3“, Paradise, and French-Man.
Residents in these communities have been struggling to transport goods to markets due to the poor condition of the road, making farming their main occupation. The Ankasa Forest Reserve holds historical significance in Ghana and supports government revenue through eco-tourism and forestry practices. However, the inaccessibility caused by the poor road conditions is hindering tourism and impacting local farming economic activities.
Despite being aware of the road’s deteriorating state, the government has not taken any action to address the issue. This situation worsens during the rainy season, as the muddy road becomes impassable for most vehicles. The only vehicle that can navigate the road during rains is an old Land Rover, which sometimes gets stuck in the mud.
Recognizing the challenges faced by commuters, tourists, and farmers, MP Dorcas Affo-Toffey has taken the initiative to reshape and repair the road. This effort aims to alleviate hardships and improve the overall accessibility of the Ankasa Forest Reserve. The Assembly Member for Solanim Electoral Area, Ebenezer Adjei, expressed optimism that the MP’s intervention would bring lasting change to the road, benefiting the people of Jomoro.
Residents in the area have expressed their gratitude to the MP for her timely intervention, highlighting the importance of the road for various dignitaries and visitors to the Ankasa Forest. Despite past reports to municipal authorities about the road’s condition, no action had been taken until the MP stepped in to address the issue. The residents are hopeful that with the MP’s support, the road will finally receive the attention it deserves.
