John Abdulai Jinapor, the Member of Parliament for the Yapei Kusawgu Constituency, has joined the chorus of people urging the building of the road that will lead to the Buipe Savannah Diamond Cement Company Ltd.
After escorting a group of town officials, including the District Chief Executive, to a private meeting with the company’s management on Friday, Mr. Jinapor made the call.
The Buipe Tamale Highway leads to Damongo, the regional center of Savannah. It connects rural communities to Damongo, a road the government has long promised to build, including Old Buipe, Lito, Sor 1, Sor 2, and others.
The Buipe Tamale Highway is located 6.5 km from the Buipe Savannah Diamond Cement Company Ltd.
Due to the company’s and others’ operations, the road is economically significant for the company, the district, and the nation as a whole; however, because of its poor condition, it is inaccessible to both drivers and community members.
It has grown to be a significant source of dust during the dry season, raising the risk to the public’s health.
The young people have been complaining about the road’s condition and are organizing a nonviolent protest against the cement company for their disregard for it. They argue that as part of its corporate social responsibility, the company should fix the road.
However, following a conversation with the company’s management, the local MP, John Abdulai Jinapor, approached the government to build the road.
Mr. Jinapor emphasized that the local youth have the right to protest and demand that the government repair the road by the law.
