Following a flurry of criticisms of his jokes, comedian Jerry Sadowitz was prohibited from doing his second show at the Edinburgh Fringe festival this weekend.

On Friday night, the Scottish comedian gave the opening performance of his show, Not For Anyone, at The Pleasance.

Prior to the performance, the venue posted a warning that said, in part: “This play contains strong language and themes some may find distressing.”

Sadowitz is well renowned for his contentious dark comedy. In a previous video, he even forewarned ticket holders about his material by saying, “He’s going to be funny.” He will behave rudely.

The venue, however, decided to cancel Sadowitz’s second night after complaints from both the audience and the staff regarding the jokes used during the first performance.

Following the decision to cancel Jerry Sadowitz’s second and last performance, the Pleasance Theatre Trust issued a long statement to Metro.co.uk. We were quickly made aware of content that was thought to be particularly harsh in terms of its sexism, racism, homophobia, and misogyny as a result of several complaints.

We will not support material that demeans people, and the language used on stage, in our opinion, was wholly unacceptable.
