President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed the government’s dedication to investing in the electricity transmission network to support the evacuation of renewable energy and extend electricity access to all parts of Ghana.

Speaking at the inauguration of phase two of the Kaleo Solar Power Plant in Kaleo, the President expressed his intention to achieve full electricity access by the end of the year, up from the current rate of 88.8%.

He emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts and effective maintenance management practices to ensure the longevity and efficiency of renewable energy infrastructure.

President Akufo-Addo highlighted the government’s policies to incentivize green investments and promote energy efficiency, with a focus on solar, wind, and hydroelectric power projects.

The President’s vision is not only to achieve energy self-sufficiency but also to position Ghana as an eco-friendly country in the region, inspiring neighboring countries to adopt greener energy solutions.

He stressed the significance of planning for the long term in capacity procurement and infrastructure development to ensure universal access to electricity across the country.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam revealed that Ghana has achieved 88.85% electricity coverage and is determined to reach the 90% threshold by the end of the year.

He cautioned against rushing into procuring excess capacity and highlighted the importance of competitive procurement to lower costs and avoid expensive unsolicited projects.

As Ghana strives towards a brighter, greener future, the government remains committed to building a sustainable energy sector that fosters economic growth, job creation, and innovation.

With a strategic focus on renewable energy and infrastructure development, Ghana is on track to create a more energy-efficient and environmentally conscious society.
