During a recent performance, Nigerian musician Adekunle Gold took an emotional moment to recognize and honor those who are facing sickle cell anemia.

Adekunle Gold disclosed that he was given a sickle cell disease diagnosis at birth and has had the illness his entire life.

He conveyed thanks for his capacity to control the condition, which has allowed him to follow his passion for music and play on stages all over the world without succumbing to its effects, despite the difficulties it poses.

Adekunle Gold, in a heartfelt letter to other sickle cell survivors, urged them to not let the disease stop them from pursuing their aspirations and objectives in life. Adekunle Gold urged them to be strong and resilient in the face of hardship.

Adekunle Gold dedicated his song “5 Star” to sickle cell disease sufferers as a way to honor them and show support for them as they continue to fight the illness.
