Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, the minister of finance, has made hints that he may soon travel to other ports around the nation to root out unethical practices.
This follows multiple allegations of unethical behavior on the part of certain port authorities.
Dr. Amin Adam stated that he is eager to help lessen the threat and that he has personally verified some of these operations.
“Commissioner-General, as you may know, there is still a strong perception of corruption in the ports, trade, and admission. Some of these impressions seem to be supported by accounts that I have seen.
“Also, I am aware that all of you have gotten similar complaints. The activities and inactions of shipping corporations, clearing agencies, and some of our own customs inspectors continue to cost us money.
“To engage and assess some of the issues first hand, I intend to visit the ports with some of your officers,” he stated.
He lamented how quickly this is harming Ghana’s ability to generate revenue, which is why important projects are being put on hold.
He pleaded with the Ghana Revenue Authority to collaborate with other important economic sectors to increase revenue.
“You must keep up the discipline and reduce revenue leaks caused by incorrect classification, misdescription, and over- or under-invoicing. I pledge my unwavering support to you and your group.
“We are here to serve a country and that is our utmost priority. If it has to do with increasing revenue, do not hesitate to reach out to me or my team at the Ministry”, he added.
