The deputy minister-designate for the gender ministry, Dr. Benjamin Sekyere Yeboah, has disclosed that some of his fellow lawmakers made fun of him after his nomination was made public.
Speaking on Friday during his vetting in Parliament in Accra, Dr. Yeboah revealed that a few of his colleagues had questioned his nomination for the Gender Ministry given that he is a man.
Dr. Yeboah revealed to Joseph Osei Owusu, the chairman of the Appointments Committee, that Joe Ghartey, the previous minister of railway development, was the only one who urged him to seize the chance and maximize it.
“Mr. Chairman, you may find it interesting to learn that when the President, in his wisdom, asked me to go to the Gender Ministry, I was asked, ‘Are you a female?'” I therefore had to hurry to do some investigation to see if I was the only male there, but I came to the conclusion that I might have been the fourth person there.
“Only the Honorable Joe Ghartey greeted me and told me, Sekyere, that you are lucky to be in such a wonderful place. You’ll get up. I said, “Papa, you are the only one who is giving me encouragement.” “Why did the President take you to the Gender Ministry? Everyone is making fun of me,” he said.
Dr. Yeboah stated that he was determined to have a big influence and rethink the gender ministry despite the first obstacles.
“However, I think that everything has a purpose, and I’ll work to make sure that gender is redefined.”
