Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has announced his foray into politics after retiring from football. Gyan, who has scored a record 51 goals for Ghana, is motivated by his desire to give back to society and contribute his wealth of experience gained over his 20-year career.
Gyan has been appointed as the Chairman of the Sports Subcommittee of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s Manifesto Team in preparation for the 2024 presidential election in December. He was approached by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership to provide insights on how to advance Ghanaian sports, and his ideas were so well-received that he was entrusted with chairing the subcommittee.
Despite the inevitable political implications of his involvement, Gyan remains focused on the positive impact he can make through his contributions. He encourages others not to be deterred by potential criticism and to take action to help bring about positive change.
In his own words, Gyan advises, “If you have something to help, do it. Don’t look at what people will say. There are many people with ideas but because of backlash, people fear to help with what they have.”
