The American vocal group Martha and the Vandellas was founded in Detroit. The three became well-known in the 1960s as a result of Motown.

Friends Annette Beard, Rosalind Ashford, and Gloria Williams formed the group; subsequently, Martha Reeves was joined; after Gloria Williams left the group in 1962, Reeves eventually took Gloria Williams’ place as the group’s lead vocalist. The band eventually finished all of their tracks for the Gordy label after joining Motown.

Come and Get These Memories, “Heat Wave,” “Quicksand,” “Nowhere to Run,” “Jimmy Mack,” “I’m Ready for Love,” “Bless You,” and “Dancing in the Street” were a few of the group’s many tracks. Later, the latter song ended up being their unmistakable hit.

In the nine years that they spent on the charts, from 1963 to 1972, Martha and the Vandellas released songs in the doo-wop, R&B, pop, blues, rock, and soul genres, charting more than 26 singles.

The trio performed six Top Ten Pop Hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and ten Vandellas tracks that peaked in the top ten on the Billboard R&B singles chart. A few members of the band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, and the National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame in 2013.
