Pelé was admitted to a hospital in So Paulo at the end of November due to complications from colon cancer and a respiratory infection. The hospital announced last week that as his malignancy worsened, so has his condition.

His death occurred on Thursday as a result of multiple organ failure brought on by the progression of colon cancer, according to a statement from Albert Einstein Hospital.

How many World Cups has Pele won? Did Pele win 3 World Cups?

Yes, Pele is the only player to have won the World Cup three times. He won the prized trophy three times, in 1958, 1962, and 1970, scoring 12 goals.

Pele scored twice in the World Cup final in 1958, as Brazil defeated host Sweden 5-2. He was the youngest player in World Cup history to score a goal, and the only player under the age of 17 to do it.

However, injury prevented him from competing in Brazil’s 1962 victory in Chile, and he was constantly scrutinized and subjected to multiple, at times serious, fouls in the 1966 game in England.
