Hector Ramirez, a cameraman with 20 Primetime Emmy Awards who spent more than ten years on Dancing With the Stars and who also worked on Elvis Presley and David Copperfield specials, the Grammy Awards, the Oscars, and concerts by Frank Sinatra, Sting, and Cher, has passed away. He was 78.

Ramirez lost his fight with esophageal cancer on Wednesday at his home in Granada Hills, according to his wife Alma Ramirez’s statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

Ramirez operated a Steadicam on the first 21 seasons of Dancing With the Stars from 2005 to 2015; for that show, he won five Emmys and a mirror ball trophy from the producers. He also worked on America’s Got Talent.

The Colombian-born director also worked on the Kennedy Center Honors, Grammy, Tony, Daytime and Primetime Emmys, Golden Globe, Independent Spirit, SAG, and AFI Life Achievement Award specials, as well as the MTV Video Music Awards, Kids’ Choice, People’s Choice, and Kids’ Choice Awards.

Ramirez was a member of the team that received a joint Emmy award in 2000 for the live CBS broadcast of Fail Safe, which was produced and co-starred by George Clooney.

Ramirez also worked as a camera operator for the Super Bowl halftime show in 2001, which featured NSYNC, Britney Spears, Mary J. Blige, and Aerosmith.
