Beards are not just a trend but a symbol of masculinity – Beards Gang President

The trend of growing long beards, especially among the youth, has been on the rise in recent years. According to Mr. Richard Nana Adu-Bhonerg, popularly known as the ‘Beards Gang President’, this trend is more than just a fashion statement – it symbolizes masculinity.

In a recent interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr. Adu-Bhonerg, who is the Chief Executive Officer of 90 Degrees Tribe, an event organizing company in Tema, emphasized the historical significance of beards as a symbol of masculinity. He highlighted that in Celtic tribes and ancient cultures like Egypt and India, beards were revered for their association with dignity, wisdom, strength, and courage.

Mr. Adu-Bhonerg pointed out that the resurgence of beards among men today signifies a return to a time when ‘men were men’, and the beard serves as a tangible reminder of masculinity in the face of modern stressors. He also shared insights on the grooming practices adopted by members of the Beards Gang, mentioning the use of waxes, oils, and balms to maintain well-kempt beards.

One member of the Beards Gang, Mr. Abdul Waajid Bancey, shared his personal grooming routine, including the use of natural dye and regular salon visits to shampoo his beard. He highlighted the importance of hygiene in beard care to prevent bacterial buildup and skin irritations.

Mr. Bancey also shed light on the religious significance of keeping a beard, citing adherence to the Sunnah practices of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. He emphasized that grooming a beard is not just a fashion choice but a cultural and religious commitment for many men.
