Gregg Matthew Berhalter, a former player and current soccer coach, was born on August 1st, 1973. Claudio Reyna’s teammate at Saint Benedict’s Preparatory School in Newark, New Jersey, Gregg Matthew Berhalter, was born and raised in Englewood but spent his formative years in Tenafly.

He is now the manager of the American men’s soccer team. Before that, Berhalter held assistant coaching positions with the Los Angeles Galaxy, the Major League Soccer team Columbus Crew SC, and the Swedish team Hammarby IF.

He played collegiate soccer at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. During his college off-season, he played with the Raleigh Flyers in the 1993 USISL season.

The United States called up Berhalter for his first overseas game against Saudi Arabia on October 15, 1994. Berhalter made history by becoming the first member of Crystal Palace to play in a World Cup game, in addition to starting the final two games for the Americans in place of the injured Jeff Agoos.

Berhalter is wed to Rosalind Berhalter. Together with his wife and their four children, he resides in the Lake View neighbourhood of Chicago.
