Ghana’s tourism sector is booming, with the Minister of Finance, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, announcing that the country generated $1.8 billion in revenue from tourism in the first half of 2024. This marks a significant increase compared to the same period last year.

During his presentation of the mid-year budget review to Parliament, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam highlighted the growth in tourist arrivals, with numbers increasing from about 500,000 in 2023 to almost 600,000 in the first half of 2024. This increase in tourist arrivals has led to an increase in revenue, with receipts totaling $1.8 billion, up from $1.5 billion over the same period last year.

Ghana is being positioned as an internationally competitive tourism destination, with the government implementing initiatives to support and maintain this growth in the sector. In addition to enhancing tourism infrastructure and marketing, the government has also focused on developing key tourist sites such as Aburi Gardens, Yaa Asantewaa mausoleum, the museum at Ejisu, and the Pkiworo Slave camp.

The government’s efforts to promote tourism and improve tourism infrastructure have clearly paid off, with the sector experiencing significant growth in revenue and tourist arrivals. With continued investment and support, Ghana’s tourism industry is set to thrive and attract even more visitors in the future.
