The Member of Parliament for Yendi, Farouk Aliu Mahama, has been placed on a blacklist by the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) for assaulting Mohammed Aminu M. Alabira, the Northern Regional Reporter for Citi News.

When Alabira was covering the mayhem that erupted during the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primary in the Yendi constituency on January 27, 2024, Farouk Mahama and his team were let loose. The matter is presently being looked into by the Northern Regional Police command.

“That all media houses must BLACKLIST and offer Farouk Aliu Mahama no media coverage, interview, etc. as the MP for Yendi and any other state position he holds until further notice,” the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA), the Private Newspaper Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG), and the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) declared at a press conference on February 6.

In addition to his disregard for the work of journalists, which was evident during the Parliamentary Primaries, we want you to know that he is surrounded by vigilantes who could harm you. So just stay away from him and his goons.

The organizations pleaded with the media to follow the instructions. “My Colleagues, let us hope that all media outlets will support our appeal and make sure they follow the guidelines. It is to our mutual benefit to do this.

The Ghana Justice Assembly (GJA) demanded that the Ghana Police Service expedite its investigation and bring the offenders before the court to face the full force of the law.

In addition, GJA threatened to counsel itself if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) did not respond to its ten-day ultimatum to hear from them.

“We are giving each of the NPP’s regional and national branches as well as the Ghana Police Service ten (10) days to respond. The culprits ought to be taken into custody. If they don’t work, we’ll counsel ourselves.
