After President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, leave office, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the minority leader, claims that Ghanaians won’t miss them.

When the President concluded his State of the Nation address on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, he made this statement in Parliament.

Among his many key points were that Akufo-Addo would guarantee credible elections, look for ways to strengthen the policy governing free senior high schools, and finish the Kumasi Airport by the end of May.

“For the last leg of the domestic debt exchange on September 5, 2023, a week ago last Tuesday, on February 20, 2024, the second coupon of GH¢5.8 billion was paid to domestic bondholders,” he added, disclosing that GH¢5.8 billion had been paid to the bondholders.

“In Ghana’s history, this is the largest coupon paid in a single day. In terms of external debt, we have reached a major turning point with our agreement with our bilateral creditors, and I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the Republic of China and France, who are co-chairs of the official creditors committee, for their constructive contributions to this accomplishment.

On the floor of Parliament, Dr. Ato Forson declared that the vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who also serves as the New Patriotic Party flagbearer, and the president cannot bear all the blame and that they have both failed.

Dr. Forson emphasized the nation’s high unemployment rate while characterizing the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led administration as a failed state.

“Mr. Speaker, there is no hope for our country.” It makes sense that a large number of Ghanaians, including professionals, are fleeing our country in quest of better opportunities abroad. Ultimately, Mr. Speaker, I am deeply troubled and deeply shocked to learn that our president has expanded the size of his government after the recent reorganization of the cabinet. We have Ministers of Finance International and Finance Domestic here today, Mr. Speaker.

Today, one dollar is worth GH13, Mr. Speaker. President Mahama valued one dollar at three cedis, or eighty pesewas, Mr. Speaker. Voting for Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, Mr. Speaker, is voting for President Akufo-Addo. To sum up, Mr. Speaker, Ghanaians cast their votes for the president and urged the vice president to help him win reelection. The president cannot fail by himself, Mr. Speaker. Since the President and Vice President must fail together, Mr. President, you have failed with your Vice President. To sum up, Mr. Speaker, Ghanaians will always remember Akufo-Addo and Alhaji Bawumia. We can only bid you farewell since we are aware that you are leaving.
