The Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, recently met with the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Lu Kun, to discuss ways to strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
During the meeting, they discussed possible areas of cooperation and expressed their commitment to ensuring peace, safety, and security in Ghana.
Minister Quartey commended the Chinese Government for their support in providing training and capacity-building programs for the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies. He noted that these programs have improved the knowledge and skills of officers, contributing to the overall development of the security sector in the country.
The Minister also highlighted the significant contributions of Chinese companies operating in Ghana, emphasizing their role in creating employment opportunities and boosting the country’s economy. He mentioned that these companies have invested heavily in various sectors and have provided training and skills development programs for Ghanaians.
Furthermore, Minister Quartey acknowledged China’s support in providing scholarship programs for Ghanaians to pursue higher education in China. He also requested tailored-training programs for the Ministry of the Interior and its agencies to enhance the skills and expertise of personnel.
In response, the Chinese Ambassador expressed satisfaction with the level of Chinese companies flourishing in Ghana and their contributions to the country’s development. He assured the Minister of China’s willingness to support capacity-building initiatives in Ghana and pledged to work with relevant authorities to provide the necessary training programs.
This courtesy call marks a significant step in strengthening the diplomatic ties between China and Ghana, with both parties expressing their desire to continue working together for the benefit of their citizens.
