GETFund threatens legal action against contractor over alleged closure of school

In response to allegations that Kontoh Sadea and Sons, a contractor, locked up the Akyem Asene Roman Catholic Basic School in the Asene-Manso-Akroso District of the Eastern Region, the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) is threatening to take legal action against them.

The contractor allegedly filed the lawsuit because, according to the reports, he was not paid by the government after the school building was turned over eight years ago.

There are two offices, a computer lab, and restrooms in the six-unit classroom block. The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), which owes unpaid certificates spanning years, was named by the contractor as the main defaulter.

However, according to a statement released by GETFund on Thursday, February 22, all unpaid funds have been given to the contractor in accordance with the terms of the agreement.

We would like to emphasize that on March 7, 2023, the subcontractor Kontoh Sadea and Sons received payment to his bank in the amount that is being contested, which is GHC52, 466.96 with REF no FIDELITY012.

“We hereby declare that the school became government property on February 15, the day the contractor in question voluntarily and formally turned it over. If the contractor closes the school on his own initiative or at his direction, we won’t have any choice but to use the legal system to hold him accountable, the statement stated.
