Hungary’s residents were obliged to abandon their Germanic surnames in favor of more Hungarian ones after the First World War. While his father kept his own last name, he gave his children the surname “Solti.”
Georg Solti was engaged as a répétiteur by the Hungarian State Opera not long after receiving his degree in 1930. He began serving as Josef Krips’ assistant in Karlsruhe, Germany, in 1932.
