Nii Teye Kojo Amankwa Sune I, the Chief of Gbetsile in the Kpone Katamanso Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, has urged his people to support him financially so that he can build the area’s poor roads while the government unnecessarily delays helping them. Gbetsile chief bemoans bad roads and calls on locals to intervene while the government delays
He said, “If we can gather here in unity for a purpose, taking education into consideration, why can’t we stop waiting for the government and come together to see how best we can take the bull by the horn and start doing something for ourselves?
He went on to say that the community could work together effectively to repair the poor roads, meaning that the appeal to have the roads built would not be on their list of problems for the following year.
At the nondenominational annual Thanksgiving service at Gbetsile in 2023, Nii Amankwa stated that the community has suffered because of the poor quality of the roads.
In order to thank God for his protection and provision over the previous year, the Kpone-Gbetsile Divisional Council organized the Gbetsile yearly thanksgiving ceremony in cooperation with the Gbetsile Council of Churches.
It served as a venue for raising money to build classrooms for the public school that already existed and to start other public schools in nearby areas including Samco, Soldier Line, and Pure Oil.
He claims that his people’s inadequate roads in Gbetsile have resulted in fatalities and major health issues.
He claimed that the people’s lives are intolerable since several requests for the government to build the roads have been met with no response.
As a result, Nii Amankwa publicly stated his dissatisfaction with the government’s response to the building of the Gbetsile roads, despite his belief that they will eventually be fixed.
“What we found out is that shaping the roads or constructing the roads is capital intensive, the stool alone cannot do it.”
“For this reason, we lobbied and we went so far to the government but what we hear all the time is that it is in the budget, very soon they will come to our aid,” Nii Amankwa fumed.”
He has once again appealed to the central government to hasten with plans to fix the roads, calling on all who care to rescue the perishing.
“All politicians here, assemblymen, municipal officials to the highest level, Gbetsile community is appealing to you to come to our aid for we are suffering.’
