Legendary Japanese visual kei rock band, The Gazette, is mourning the loss of their bassist, Reita. The band announced the tragic news on their website on Monday, revealing that Reita had passed away at the age of 42.

The statement expressed the band’s deepest gratitude to fans who have supported Reita throughout his career.

Reita was a founding member of The Gazette, along with lead vocalist Ruki, Uruha, Aoi, Yune (who left the group in 2003), and Kai. Fans expressed their shock and sadness upon hearing the news of Reita’s death, with many sharing heartfelt messages on social media.

The band had posted on X (formerly Twitter) just one day earlier, expressing their hopes that the group would “last forever.” Reita’s unexpected passing has left fans devastated, with many struggling to come to terms with the loss of the talented musician.

Reita had opened up in a previous interview about his struggles with mental health during the Covid-19 pandemic, revealing that the halt in live performances had taken a toll on him. Despite these challenges, the band continued to release music, with their album MASS coming out in May 2020.

Formed in Kanagawa in 2002, The Gazette is known for their unique blend of visual kei rock, a Japanese musical style influenced by glam rock and heavy metal. The band achieved international success with hits like Leech, Distress and Coma, and Shiver, the theme song for the anime Kuroshitsuji II (Black Butler II).

The band recently celebrated their 20th anniversary with the release of a compilation album, Heterodoxy -Divided 3 Concepts. The Gazette’s music has resonated with fans around the world, and their impact on the rock music scene will not be forgotten.

Reita’s passing marks a significant loss for the band and their dedicated fanbase. As the band navigates this difficult time, they are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from fans.

A private memorial service will be held for Reita’s family as they mourn the loss of the talented bassist.

May he rest in peace.
