Freiburg’s attacking midfielder, Daniel-Kofi Kyereh, will unfortunately be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a cruciate ligament injury sustained during a training session in February 2023.

The news was confirmed by Freiburg’s coach, Christian Streich, during a press conference ahead of their upcoming match against FSV Mainz 05 on Sunday evening. Kyereh, who joined Freiburg from FC St. Pauli for a reported fee of €4.5 million in the summer of 2022, has been limited to just 18 competitive games for the club due to his serious injury.

Although Kyereh has been making progress in his rehabilitation, the 26-year-old has not yet returned to team training, which means he will not be available for selection in the final weeks of the current Bundesliga season. His absence will be a significant blow to Freiburg’s attacking options, as Kyereh was a key player for the team prior to his injury.

With Kyereh ruled out, Coach Streich will now have to rely on other players in the squad to step up and fill the void left by the midfielder as they aim for a strong finish to the season. The team will have to come together and work collectively to compensate for the loss of Kyereh in their push for success in the Bundesliga.
