In an exhilarating match on Sunday at the Lotto Park, Francis Amuzu emerged as the hero for Anderlecht as they secured a 2-1 victory over Union St.Gilloise in the Belgian First Division.

The Ghanaian-born Belgian winger made a significant impact after coming off the bench in the 37th minute to replace the injured Thorgan Hazard, scoring the decisive goal in the 76th minute.

Despite Union St.Gilloise boasting a favorable head-to-head record with 10 wins compared to Anderlecht’s one victory and one draw, it was Anderlecht who took the lead early in the game. Kasper Dolberg found the back of the net in the 11th minute with a left-footed shot from the left side of the six-yard box.

The momentum of the match shifted in the 64th minute when Zeno Debast was shown a second yellow card for a bad foul, reducing Anderlecht to 10 men. Union St.Gilloise seized the opportunity and equalized through Cameron Puertas’ penalty in the 67th minute.

However, it was Amuzu who ultimately stole the show with a brilliant goal in the 76th minute, assisted by Killian Sardella. Amuzu’s right-footed shot from the center of the box found the top left corner, securing Anderlecht’s victory. Ghanaian midfielder Majeed Ashimeru watched from the bench as an unused substitute during the game.

Amuzu’s heroics have undoubtedly bolstered Anderlecht’s position in the league, and fans will be eager to see more remarkable performances from the talented winger in the future.
