Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Ejisu, has officially filed his nomination at the Electoral Commission’s (EC) office to run as an Independent Candidate in the upcoming by-election.
Aduomi’s decision to run as an independent candidate stems from what he perceives as the NPP’s failure to address important concerns regarding the existing delegates album, which he believes undermines the integrity and fairness of the party. Despite filing as an independent candidate, Aduomi remains optimistic about his chances of winning the Ejisu by-election.
Speaking to the media, Aduomi dismissed claims of betraying the NPP and emphasized that he is focused on serving his constituents rather than seeking personal enrichment. He made it clear that he is willing to accept defeat if he loses the election.
The former MP also indicated that he would consider rejoining the NPP in the future if the party addresses the issues he has raised. He expressed a willingness to work with the party if it demonstrates a commitment to doing things right.
However, the Ashanti Regional chairman for NPP, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, has accused Aduomi of being disloyal to the party, despite the benefits he has received. Antwi-Boasiako questioned whether the NDC is influencing Aduomi’s decision to run as an independent candidate.
Antwi-Boasiako emphasized that the NPP is a strong party focused on development, and he expressed confidence that the party’s candidate will emerge victorious in the Ejisu by-election. He cited the competitiveness of the NPP’s candidates and the party’s commitment to addressing the needs of the Ejisu community.
As the by-election approaches, all eyes will be on Ejisu to see how Aduomi’s decision to run as an independent candidate will impact the electoral landscape and the future of the NPP in the constituency.
