Former Asante Kotoko forward Kwadwo Poku Mahala has recently voiced his concerns regarding the coach’s decision to rotate goalkeepers in the ongoing season. Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has been giving opportunities to Frederick Asare, Moise Pouaty, and captain Danlad Ibrahim to showcase their skills in the goalkeeping department.

However, Poku Mahala believes that this rotational policy may not be the best approach to determining the number one goalkeeper for the team. He emphasized the importance of competition and challenge in football, stating that goalkeepers should be selected based on their performance and not simply rotated in and out of the squad.

Drawing from his own experience during his time at Asante Kotoko, Poku Mahala recalled how goalkeepers were chosen based on their training performance, with the least performing goalkeeper not making it to the final match day squad. He emphasized that rotating goalkeepers could lead to complacency and laziness among them.

Asante Kotoko has been struggling in the Ghana Premier League, currently sitting in eleventh place on the table after a series of disappointing results. With six defeats in their last seven games, the team is facing a challenging period and needs to find a way to turn their season around. Poku Mahala’s comments highlight the need for a more competitive approach in selecting the team’s goalkeeper to improve their performance on the field.
