Sulemana Iddrisu, also known as Professor Kalamonia, is the chairman of the Savannah Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP). He responded to the burning of his 15-bedroom home in Gumani, Northern Region, by stating that his life is more valuable than anything.
“Nothing was taken from the house, but in my opinion, there is still hope if there is life, as my mother, who is more valuable than any material possession, was saved from her room. Thus, Alhaji Sulemana Iddrisu said, “I thank Allah.”
According to Mr. Sulemana, who made this claim in an interview with Myjoyonline, he got a phone from home informing him that his house had burned to the ground.
“The only thing I said was, I thank Almighty Allah for giving me that gift (House) because my mother was on admission and discharged on Saturday then, the fire occurred on Sunday. If it’s not the doing of Allah, who else could be”, he queried.
At around 4:35 p.m. on Sunday, February 11, 2024, a fire completely destroyed the house and other properties.
Despite their swift arrival at the scene, members of the Ghana National Fire Service in the Sagnarigu Municipality, under the direction of Station Officer Dauda Basit, stated that it was too late to salvage anything of value.
But he said they were able to stop the fire from spreading to neighboring homes and properties because of the extra pumps from the fire station.
Although he stated that “the whole thing is still under investigation because the fire started from one room and spread to the rest,” he expressed his suspicion that an electrical malfunction is the primary reason.
A variety of personal valuables were set on fire, including land titles, certifications, motorbikes, flat-screen TVs, refrigerators, clothing, and food.
Sulemana Sheriff, an eyewitness who was in his room when the fire broke out, talked to Myjoyonline.
He claimed that as his little son was outdoors having fun, he noticed smoke rising from his mother’s room’s roof and alerted them to it.
