Deputy Attorney-General Alfred Tuah-Yeboah has made it clear that there are no obstacles preventing the extradition of the former Chief Executive Officer of the Micro Finance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe, who has absconded.
According to Tuah-Yeboah, the court has already handed down its final judgment in the case, making it appropriate for Tamakloe to be extradited without any delays or hindrances.
“In cases of extradition, there may be challenges that arise, such as appeals from the accused. However, in this particular situation, we have a final judgment,” Tuah-Yeboah stated during a press briefing.
Alongside Sedina Tamakloe, Daniel Axim, the Director of Operations at MASLOC, was also sentenced to 5 years in jail for their involvement in causing financial losses to the state.
The duo faced a total of 78 charges, including conspiracy to steal, stealing, causing financial loss to the state, improper payment of public funds, and contraventions of the Public Procurement Act, among others.
The presiding judge, Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe, expressed dismay at the lack of attention paid to financial crimes committed by professionals, stating that they can be more detrimental than violent crimes.
Summary of the sentences handed down by the court included 10 years imprisonment for theft, 3 years for causing financial loss to the state, and various other penalties for the charges they were found guilty of.
The State’s investigations revealed that the accused persons misappropriated funds meant for various projects, including investments in a microfinance company, disbursement of funds for beneficiaries, procurement of vehicles at inflated prices, and unauthorized payments to themselves.
The prosecution has been directed to initiate forfeiture proceedings against Sedina Tamakloe, particularly for the misappropriation of funds related to various projects.
