Manchester City FC forward Erling Haaland and PSG forward Kylian Mbappé were totally chilled out and relaxed when Argentinian captain Lionel Messi was announced the winner of the 2023 Ballon d’Or.
On Monday (October 30), Inter Miami CF’s Messi beat Haaland and Mbappé to win the prestigious Ballon d’Or award in front of millions of football fans around the globe.
Even though Haaland was tipped as the award favourite when the shortlist was released some weeks ago, Messi somehow managed to pick up the award.
This is the eighth Ballon d’Or for Messi — becoming the all-time highest recipient.
And when he was announced by David Beckham as the winner, his close competitors Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé offered a calm reaction and applauded his win.
In the 2022-2023 football season, Messi led PSG to the French League 1 trophy. Unfortunately, PSG were kicked out of the Champions League during the last 16 stage but Messi took Argentina to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 final and won.
