Empowering young women insights from Ghana Grows Policy Roundtable

Young women in the Volta Region are being encouraged to look up to accomplished role models for inspiration in making significant contributions to their families, communities, and the nation.

The call comes as part of the Ghana Grows Policy Roundtable, which brought together 120 young women and numerous online participants to equip them with the skills needed to engage effectively with policymakers at both national and local levels.

The initiative, organized under the Ghana Grows Programme by the Mastercard Foundation and the Springboard Road Show Foundation, focuses on empowering young people, particularly women and those with disabilities, to explore career opportunities in agriculture, agribusiness, and technical and vocational fields. Comfort Ocran, Executive Director of the Springboard Road Show Foundation, emphasized the importance of community leaders, educators, and students coming together to inspire young people and adopt a gender-responsive approach to breaking barriers.

The discussions during the event centered on commitments outlined in the National Gender Policy, with speakers like Dr. Hilary Gbedemah, a lawyer, sharing personal stories and insights to motivate Ghana’s youth to strive for success despite obstacles. Dr. Angela Dwamena-Aboagye, Executive Director of the Ark Foundation, highlighted her organization’s efforts to support young women, especially those who have experienced abuse, calling for collective action to address this critical issue.

By providing young women with tools for policy engagement, the Ghana Grows Policy Roundtable aims to remove barriers to female participation while creating awareness of opportunities for them to reach their full potential. Participants left the event inspired and determined to actively contribute to policy development and drive positive change in their communities and beyond.

Reflecting on her experience, participant Kekeli Adzo expressed newfound confidence in advocating for herself and her community to access opportunities in agriculture and technical sectors. The Springboard Road Show Foundation extended an invitation to young people interested in exploring opportunities within agriculture, agribusiness, and technical fields through the Ghana Grows Programme, providing free assistance via its call Centre.
