Elon Musk tweets R.I.P Twitter meme after reports that workers have resigned

Since completing a deal to purchase the company for almost $44 billion on Oct. 27, Elon Musk, the company’s new owner and CEO, has made significant changes. After firing half the workforce, he issued the remaining workers this week an ultimatum: Either agree to work under his new, strict culture, or go. Many, it appears, made the decision to depart.

Musk sent an email to Twitter employees on November 17, 2022, requesting that they commit to a hardcore work environment and stating that following his acquisition of the Twitter application, employees would be required to put in long hours of work at high intensity. The deadline for employees to submit their choice was 10:00 PM GMT on Friday, November, 18.

A wave of resignations from Twitter Inc. occurred in the hours before the deadline as a result of several staff members choosing to depart rather than follow Elon’s demanding work schedule.

Bloomberg and Fortune estimate that up to 75% of the remaining staff members chose to leave.

Musk published a mysterious meme image on the platform showing Twitter being buried at a graveyard amid rumors that the service would shut down as a result of a wave of widespread resignations. This coincides with Twitter’s trending hashtag, #RIPTwitter.

The 51-year-old billionaire started things off with an emoji of a black pirate flag with a skull and crossbones. In a subsequent tweet, he shared a meme depicting a burial scene, in which Twitter appears to be buried.

When people ask what I do for fun, I tell 'em, “I write.”
