The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) states that it will reevaluate its decision to protest only in the event that the government retracts its letter about the Value Added Tax (VAT) on energy.
Executive Secretary of the Association Isaac Bampoe-Addo emphasized that the letter must be returned to the government by February 13 in order for the Association to begin its protest.
Following the decision of 35 labor unions and the Trades Union Congress (TUC) to stage a demonstration on February 13, he made these remarks. They object to the government’s insistence on keeping the 15% power VAT in place.
While acknowledging the government’s letter expressing a willingness for communication, Bampoe-Addo outlined conditions that the unions cannot accept in an interview with JoyNews.
Before any conversations could take place, he insisted on a complete and unconditional withdrawal.
The demonstration will continue if the government doesn’t comply with their demand by February 13; the focus is on finding a solution to the problem.
