President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo recently delivered a powerful address at the Wesley Cathedral in Kumasi during the 13th Biennial/51st Annual Conference of the Methodist Church of Ghana.
In his speech, President Akufo-Addo dismissed concerns about potential electoral misconduct in the upcoming 2024 general elections with confidence.
The President reassured Ghanaians of the government’s commitment to a transparent, fair, and peaceful election process. He emphasized the ruling New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) democratic principles and historical commitment to fair play. Speaking to Methodist clergy and congregants, President Akufo-Addo declared the government’s obligation and duty to ensure that the impending elections are conducted peacefully and transparently, in full compliance with the electoral laws of the country.
President Akufo-Addo criticized those who have been spreading fears of electoral malpractice, including some members of the clergy. He expressed disappointment in those predicting election rigging and violence, stating firmly that the 2024 elections will be conducted peacefully and in accordance with the laws of the country. He highlighted that rigging is not part of the NPP’s DNA, reaffirming the party’s commitment to democracy and respect for the will of the people.
The President also showcased the NPP’s governance record over the past eight years, praising Vice President and presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for presenting an exciting vision for Ghana’s future. He challenged the Opposition Leader, claiming that they are afraid to debate Bawumia.
President Akufo-Addo reiterated his commitment to leaving office peacefully, just as he was elected. He affirmed his dedication to maintaining Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy on the African continent.
