The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana is gearing up for the upcoming 2024 elections and has emphasized the importance of compiling a credible voter register.
Chairperson Jean Mensa highlighted the essential role of a reliable voter register in ensuring transparent elections during a news conference in Accra.
Mensa stated, “It is well known that the voters register is a bedrock of an election. Without a credible and accurate voter register, there can be no transparent and acceptable elections.” The EC is committed to delivering credible, transparent, and peaceful elections, beginning with the limited voter registration exercise scheduled to start on Tuesday, May 7.
The 21-day exercise aims to enroll individuals who have turned 18 years old since the last registration in the national voter album. The registration will take place at the EC’s district offices and in hard-to-reach electoral areas. Additionally, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has granted Senior High/Senior High Technical School students who are 18 years or older four days off to participate in the exercise.
Regional Directors have been instructed to communicate this information to all heads of SHS/SHTS for compliance. The EC is committed to ensuring a credible and transparent electoral process in the lead-up to the December 7 general elections in Ghana.
