The political mood in Ejisu does not bode well for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the ongoing by-election, according to Political Marketing Strategist, Professor Kobby Mensah.

Professor Mensah highlighted the challenge posed by independent candidates, particularly Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, who he described as giving the NPP a significant headache.

Speaking on the Ghana Tonight show on TV3, Professor Kobby Mensah expressed his concern, stating that a loss in the by-election would be a major setback for the NPP.

He pointed out the example of Fomena, where the independent candidate emerged victorious against the party’s choice, despite the president’s visit to express disapproval of the independent candidate.

With over 100,000 voters participating in the election to choose a successor to the late Dr. John Kumah in the Ejisu Constituency, six candidates are vying for the seat.

The candidates include former MP Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, Kwabena Boateng of the NPP, Esther Osei of the Convention People’s Party, Beatrice Boakye of the Liberal Party of Ghana, and independent candidates Fred Agyemang Joseph and Attakorah Joseph.

The Electoral Commission has assured voters of a free and fair election process, urging them to trust in the transparency of the voting system.

In response to allegations of ballot box stuffing by one of the independent candidates, the Commission dismissed the claims and emphasized the integrity of the electoral process.

Ashanti Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Benjamin Bannor-Bio, reiterated the Commission’s commitment to ensuring a credible election and urged candidates to appoint vigilant agents to safeguard their interests.

Officials of the Electoral Commission also guaranteed that there would be no delays at the 204 polling stations, reassuring voters of a smooth voting process.

The Ejisu constituency by-election is a crucial event that will determine the political landscape in the region, with the NPP facing stiff competition from independent candidates.
