ECOWAS lifts economic sanctions imposed on Niger, Mali, Guinea

Abuja, Nigeria The four member states of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS)—the Niger Republic, Burkina Faso, Mali, and Guinea—will no longer be subject to economic sanctions, the organization announced.

A remarkable summit convened in Abuja on Saturday, February 24, resulted in the decision. The summit focused on addressing political, security, and peace conditions within the ECOWAS subregion.

ECOWAS stressed that political and targeted sanctions against the affected countries will continue to be in effect even though the economic sanctions have been lifted. This is to maintain peace and order, helping citizens to live in peace and have their liberty in many and other personal operations.
