Actress Yvonne Nelson has taken a stand against the Akufo-Addo government’s failure to address the ongoing power outages in Ghana, commonly known as “dumsor.”
She has called on the policy think tank IMANI Africa to organize a protest to demand action from the government.
With recent intermittent power cuts causing frustration among Ghanaians, many are demanding a clear load-shedding timetable from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). In a post on social media, Yvonne Nelson expressed her disappointment in President Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for neglecting the issue of power supply.
Yvonne Nelson highlighted IMANI’s successful involvement in a similar protest back in 2015, which saw a massive turnout of Ghanaians voicing their discontent with the lack of reliable electricity. The actress emphasized that the government should not take the citizens for granted and called for immediate action to address the dumsor crisis.
The 2015 protest led by Yvonne Nelson and supported by IMANI Ghana shed light on the impact of power cuts on daily life in Ghana. Now, with dumsor making a comeback, Yvonne Nelson is once again urging IMANI Ghana to lead the charge in organizing a protest against the Akufo-Addo government.
The persistent issue of erratic power supply has sparked frustration among many Ghanaians, prompting calls for decisive action from both the government and relevant stakeholders.
