Dumsor: Imani has been chasing ECG but I’ve never seen Yvonne Nelson amplify any of our work – Bright Simons on call to protest

Popular Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson recently made headlines by calling on IMANI Africa to organize a protest against the government for the current power outages, similar to the one held during the Mahama administration

However, Bright Simons, Vice President of IMANI Africa, has raised questions about the basis of Yvonne Nelson’s call.

According to Bright Simons, IMANI has been actively raising concerns about the government’s performance, but he has yet to see Yvonne Nelson support their work by sharing it on her social media platforms. This raises concerns about the authenticity and motives behind Yvonne Nelson’s call for a protest.

Yvonne Nelson, who led a massive protest against the John Mahama government over ‘dumsor’ in 2015, expressed her readiness to partner with IMANI Ghana for a second protest against the Akufo-Addo government for the power cuts. She highlighted that IMANI Ghana supported her previous protest and wants the same level of support for the current government.

In response to Yvonne Nelson’s call, Bright Simons pointed out the various efforts made by IMANI in holding the government accountable, including chasing ECG, pursuing CWM matters, fighting over gas value chain issues, probing power tariff proposals, and highlighting IPP debt buildup. He raised concerns about Yvonne Nelson’s lack of amplification of IMANI’s work and questioned why she has not shown support by even retweeting their content.
