The Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin has strongly criticized individuals who are working against the government’s flagship program, the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.
Speaking at a grand durbar during the Ohum-Kan festival in Kyebi, the traditional ruler expressed his disappointment in some matrons and teachers who are sabotaging the policy introduced by the Akufo-Addo administration in 2017.
Under the private name Odeshie Kwame Boakye Ofori Atta, the Okyenhene emphasized the importance of the Free SHS policy in providing free access to secondary education for all Ghanaian students. He commended President Akufo-Addo for his dedication to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to attend school without financial barriers.
The Okyenhene voiced his concern over reports of some teachers and matrons stealing food meant for students and then publicizing complaints about the quality of meals provided. He described this behavior as a deliberate attempt to undermine the Free SHS policy and hinder the country’s development.
Highlighting a specific incident at a school in Kyebi where food intended for hearing-impaired students was stolen, the traditional leader called for accountability and integrity among those responsible for providing food to students. He warned that such actions not only undermine the policy but also hinder the progress of the nation.
The Free SHS policy has faced criticism, particularly regarding concerns about inadequate infrastructure affecting the quality of education at the secondary level. Despite challenges, the Okyenhene’s message underscores the importance of upholding the integrity of the policy and ensuring that all children have access to quality education.
