The importance of getting vaccinated against Covid-19 cannot be overstated, as vaccines have been proven to be life-saving and effective in preventing deaths and disease complications.
Dr. Emmanuel Addipa-Adapoe, a Senior Medical Officer at Ridge Hospital, emphasized the need to discard any myths surrounding vaccines and to trust that they are safe and effective.
During a media engagement on vaccine uptake and the launch of the National Media Vaccine Network in Ghana, Dr. Addipa-Adapoe highlighted the ongoing threat of Covid-19, especially since the goal of vaccinating 20 million Ghanaians has not yet been reached. Currently, over 11 million people in Ghana are fully vaccinated against Covid-19, while 27 million have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
Despite this progress, Ghana has not achieved herd immunity against Covid-19, underscoring the importance of more people getting vaccinated to protect themselves and their communities. The formation of the National Media Vaccine Network is aimed at building the capacity of journalists to educate the public on the benefits of vaccinations.
Dr. Charity Binka, Executive Secretary of the Africa Malaria Media Research Network (AMMREN), urged the media to amplify the importance of vaccinations in preventing diseases, complications, and deaths. With the support of organizations like WHO and the Ghana Health Service, the media plays a crucial role in promoting vaccine uptake and dispelling misinformation.
It is crucial for everyone to understand the critical role that vaccines play in public health and to make informed decisions based on reliable information.
Vaccinations are key to overcoming the Covid-19 pandemic and protecting the health and well-being of individuals and communities. Let us all do our part by getting vaccinated and encouraging others to do the same.
