NDC parliamentary candidate for Dome-Kwabenya constituency, Elikplim Akurugu, has expressed her optimism about winning the upcoming elections.
In the 2020 elections, she was able to secure 52,262 votes, a significant increase from the 29,392 votes the NDC candidate received in 2016.
In an exclusive interview with TV3, Akurugu highlighted the hard work she has been putting in within the constituency and her hopes of clinching victory in the December polls. She emphasized that Dome-Kwabenya is not a dynasty and should not be treated as such, asserting that leveraging on family names does not necessarily guarantee success.
Akurugu has been actively engaged in community outreach, actively seeking out the concerns and needs of the people. She has pledged to lobby for developmental projects in the constituency, including the completion of the Dome Market phase two. Additionally, Akurugu aims to support the youth and artisans in the area by advocating for the establishment of an industrial park for them.
The Dome-Kwabenya constituency, with a voter population of 172,000 as of 2020, is the largest in the country and has been occupied by notable figures such as former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye.
