US-based Certified Master Dog Trainer and Security Analyst, Kenneth Kojo Singah, has weighed in on the recent tragic incident involving a dog mauling a sleeping baby in Ghana.
Singah compared owning a dog to possessing a firearm, stressing the importance of proper guidance and training for both. He pointed out the lack of awareness among many Ghanaians regarding the responsibilities that come with owning a dog, highlighting the need for education and training.
In an interview with Johnnie Hughes on 3FM Sunrise Morning show, Singah emphasized the risks of leaving children unsupervised with dogs, cautioning against potential accidents and harm. He explained how children may unintentionally provoke dogs, leading to aggressive behavior and injuries. Singah urged prospective dog owners to seek advice from trained professionals before acquiring a dog, to ensure a safe and harmonious relationship between pet and owner.
Senior Specialist Plastic Surgeon at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and President of Kennel Union of Ghana, Dr. Warigbani Pieterson, also emphasized the importance of responsible dog ownership. He advised individuals to research dog breeds and socialize dogs from a young age to prevent misunderstandings and aggression.
Dr. Pieterson encouraged people to seek advice from experienced dog owners before choosing a breed.
