Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has revealed plans to partner with the private sector to train 1 million Ghanaian youth in information technology skills.
This initiative aims to provide job opportunities worldwide for the youth in Ghana, particularly in the field of software development.
According to Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the NPP, this collaboration with the private sector will enable Ghana to fully leverage the 4th industrial revolution. The goal is to equip Ghanaian youth with the necessary digital skills to compete on a global scale and take advantage of emerging opportunities in the digital economy.
In a recent post on his platform, Ahiagbah emphasized the importance of digital skills for Ghana’s youth, stating that “Digital Bawumia” will give them the edge to compete globally. The ultimate objective is to bridge the digital divide and achieve close to 100% internet penetration in Ghana.
Dr. Bawumia envisions a future where technology, data, and systems are used for inclusive economic growth. He hopes to leverage digital technology, STEM, robotics, and artificial intelligence to transform key sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, education, manufacturing, fintech, and public service delivery.
The NPP flagbearer expressed his commitment to building a Ghana where digital talent is nurtured to meet the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. By providing digital and software skills to hundreds of thousands of youth, he believes that significant job opportunities can be created, even for school dropouts.
Through this ambitious plan to train 1 million youth in IT skills, including software development, Dr. Bawumia aims to empower the next generation of Ghanaian leaders to drive innovation and economic growth in the digital age.
